So... 12/31/12

This year was a flop. Other than my goddess series at the beginning, I didn't get anything done. Sure, I started. But nothing is finished. Kind of sad. Maybe I need to find a different path in life, because this art thing is a bit of a failure. >.> Bored with my complaining yet? I am. (I need a cheerleader or something).

-I've seen a progress meme going around dA and am a bit sad that I really can't participate. I don't have anything good enough or thrilling to put on it. Hmmm.

But I may get something done this year, since I'm doing two collabs with wonderful peeps who can stay on my ass. Those are:

-The  DW comic/story/THING I'm working on with Derrot. We have the very first part slated to begin in January. We still have the timeline to work out and ideas to organize, but I'm sure we can do it! We'll have to make a list of the work to do and then split it up. (I'm doing that "new" character sketch tonight, Der!) Can't wait!

-A short comic with Jadine. We did not get accepted into The Sleep of Reason, but we're still going forward with the idea we planned. We pretty much have it all outlined, but may embellish things since we no longer have a 20-page limit. I'm really excited! Let's make it freakin' awesome and make people jealous! XD

-I have an interview on Wednesday. Wish me luck? I really want to commish more peeps cuz I love y'all. ;_; Sure, there's stuff I want so I need MONEYZ (and benefits), but I mainly want to give to charities, schools, and commish/buy stuff for buddies.

-I have sketches. (Always sketches; nothing substantial! BAAAW) I would call them Xmas gifts, but since that's gone... 8D I'll just call them sketches. If you don't get one, don't be offended. You may be getting something soon. I just need to get into the swing of things.

-I want to work more on Roadside Whispers and maybe more on my SPN idea, even if it's just scenes for the fic(written and drawn). I've grown quite fond of Rosalind and don't want Cherry to just languish under a pile.

Do you have resolutions? :3

A Small Memorial

I like looking up my favorite former professors to see how they're doing. I probably should make contact, but eh, I'm still a shy person, even having known them in the flesh. (Maybe soon?)

I have only visited one professor several times since leaving FSCJ in 2008, because he allowed former students to sit in his lectures.

Richard Turk was my professor for Intro to Religion and World Religions in 2006 and 2007. He was a pastor for many years before teaching courses and he still ministered to ex-prisoners so that they could function within society again. He told us about helping underprivileged adults and children, along with his wife (who would sometimes come to class herself and talk to the students). Mr. Turk was a devout Christian, but was one of the most open-minded people I have ever met. (He claimed to play "Buddhist golf," which was pretty funny) He loved listening to us and debating, and would challenge those who were a little too stuck in their worldview. He wouldn't just "grade" our papers and work, but would write many notes on them and this would prompt further discussion. He liked watching us grow and observing our thought processes - a true teacher.

He advocated acceptance of all belief systems, despite his not subscribing to all of them. (He would often end a discussion with, "Isn't that somethin'?" with a big grin on his face. He thought spirituality was amazing in all forms) Even though I thought I knew a lot about religion before coming into the classes, I learned so much from him because he knew about the history and contexts from which the religions grew.

Today, I thought about visiting him again soon. When I looked him up, I was saddened to learn that he had passed away on December 25, 2011. Apparently, he taught right up to his death; he loved it so much. It's fitting that he went "home" on his savior's birthday. He practiced Christianity as it should be. I really hope he's happy.
It's weird knowing he will no longer be on campus again. ):

Benny!

Slightly better version of Benedict Cumberbatch than the little one posted before. It's far from perfect, but I want to do it again on real art paper and "real" drawing pencils. It'll be easier to blend the shades.

Benny, your face is so frustrating!

Likenesses... *snerk*

Did some stuff today. Well, technically yesterday, but whatever. I'm sleepy. 8D These are all from a roadtrip, on a bus. (This is kinda relevant)

For an upcoming comic collab with Derrot, I've been trying to draw actor likenesses in order to get practice before the official story begins. (And it's good to practice faces anyway)

So, I'm keeping this short:

First up, it's not a likeness, but rather another WIP of Derrot's Gera and Pan.

It turns out that I need to "plumpen" Gera (left).

Cameo WIP (The Doctor, Jade, and Benny are coming)

An attempt at Benny C. Yeah, I'm re-doing this. 8D He's so fat and non-Benny-ish. I blew up his face to get a better look at his facial structure, so hopefully that'll help. (And when I say "blew up," I mean that I made the printer give me a bigger picture of him. I didn't throw dynamite at his actual face. Doing such a thing is illegal, I believe.)

An attempt at Matt Smith:

Another:

And another: I blame the bus for bumping too much. 8D It's terrifying.

And I almost have him now:

I did individual features rather than the whole face in one go. It helped. (Chin's still weird)

Lastly, Jade's facial structure (or some facial features; haven't done a full face). The top left is the first attempt. The bottom mouth and eye came after. I think they're not so bad. Still need to work on the nose.
