Writing Blog

I don't know how often I'll post on it, but I created a blog for my crappy writing. Yay? I found a few old ideas and stories while looking for retrospective drawings. So, I'm putting the embarrassing stuff up. Eventually. 8D

Here it be

Supernatural series - A Very Brief "Review"

I recently finished watching the entire series. As in: last night, I saw S7e23. I just wanted to give my thoughts while it's still running fresh.

Before watching Supernatural in full, I had only known about its "batshit crazy" fandom (as some people put it). I wasn't really interested in it when ads for the first season began, for reasons I can't remember, but I have seen a few eps over the years during its syndication. They were amusing, but I just didn't make an effort to see the show from the beginning. However, peeps like Kashoku and Ayashi kept yapping about it, so I kept it in the back of my mind to check it out officially. It wasn't until recently that my interest became piqued by Tumblr and the amusing gifs people made from the show and its actors. (I love Misha Collins's trolling) And I finally found out where certain meme images came from, like this one:
(from The French Mistake, but don't watch this ep alone since you kinda need context)

<3!

So, let's see if I can do this without giving much away:

Plot: The series starts out dealing with urban legends and monsters, with an overarching plot of REVENGE. Two brothers (*brofist*) search for their missing father, who (to me) is an abusive twat. They're a family of hunters, who go across the country to find and kill those creepy creatures which live in our closets and hide under our beds. They hope to eventually find the "yellow-eyed demon" who killed their mother.
Pretty basic premise, but it does become complicated in later seasons, as the Apocalypse looms. Before you go, "UGH, angels and demons. How unoriginal!," I'll tell you to stop and give it a chance. I think the show's take on Christian mythology is interesting. (I'm trying to not give anything away here, so YAY VAGUENESS!)

Characters: To me, this is the "meat" of the show. The main characters are well-realized and I became attached to them pretty quick. (Except for John, what a dick!) Watching the relationship between the brothers, Sam and Dean, was always enjoyable. Okay, maybe not always since sometimes it was sad, but I really got the feeling they cared for one another (and the "fact" that the actors seem to be Heterosexual Life Partners helped that chemistry).
The writers sure like to put these two through the meat grinder, and the bros are constantly on an emotional roller coaster. (MANLY TEARS)  They can be whiny bitches, but I still love 'em!
I also must mention the other characters. I can't really call them "secondary" or "supporting" since they are pretty important. There's Bobby Singer the good and gruff father figure (I just wanna  hug him sometimes. I hope we see him again soon), Castiel the angel (a very popular character, and I can see why. His constant misunderstanding of human ways makes me lol), Crowley the King of Hell (one of those villains you come to like and sometimes root for), Ellen (who can put people in their place) and Jo, her daughter (who, thankfully, became more rounded and didn't remain a "mary sue"), and others. 8D Gotta give props to Gabriel and Lucifer too!

Language/Violence/Sex: There's blood and gore. It can get pretty graphic with the guns, blades, saws, teeth, claws, head-bashings, burnings, etc.. One thing that really annoys me about the show is animal death. It's not really that much, and you don't see the deed. But you do hear their cries and if an animal shows up, it's probably going to bite the dust in some way. I hate it, but I don't let it put me off the show. I just want to warn people in case that's a deal-breaker for them. (But you'll be missing a lot if you write the show off)
There's some sex. Nothing too graphic, but enough to know just what is going on. ^^; Uncomfortably so.
Some harsh language, but no four-letter words. I find this hilarious, considering the aforementioned sex and violence. Our ideals of purity are so screwed up.

Humor: Lots of it, and one of the main reasons why I stuck with the show. Not only does it have the character and situational humor, but the creators also use meta to poke fun at the show itself, other shows (like Ghost Hunters), the actors, the plot, and even the fans. Some of my fave eps are the silly ones, which I think are needed to break up the seriousness (Tall Tales, The French Mistake, Yellow Fever, etc.). It's nice to see the show take itself seriously, but it knows when to cool things down.
One of my favorite scenes from the show (and perhaps from anything)-
Probably funnier once you know Dean's manly character. XD

Slashability:
You may have seen terms like "Wincest" and "Destiel" floating around. I'm not a fan of incest pairings as a rule, but I can ALMOST see why Wincest exists. The two bros are very dependent on one another and act like a married couple (which other characters point out). So, the idea is a bit creepy, but not too far-fetched, honestly. XD
Then there's Dean/Castiel. Why haven't these two kissed yet? ._.; Might as well be canon and I'm saying this without seeing fanart or reading fics and potentially being influenced by those. Other characters also point out their "thing" for each other. It's kind of sweet, really. (And fanservice is given many times)
Sammifer (Sam/Lucifer)-just based on the way Lucifer talks to Sam, it's almost canon. Screw it, it IS canon, in a creepy way. A horribly creepy way. o.O
There's also potential for other slashy pairings, so if that's your thing, go wild. (The creators and actors know about it and seem to love it)

Crossover-bility: (Now I'm really just making up words.) I have seen "SuperWhoLock" around. It's amusing, but I don't see how it could work. Supernatural deals with actual monsters, Doctor Who usually explains the weird stuff with aliens or science and Sherlock uses cold, hard fact. The three may deal with mysteries, but they go through different routes to solve them. *is a buzzkill* I can see it working if characters from one universe fall into another, but making them coexist-not so much.
I do, however, want to see Sherly make god!Castiel cry (because Sherly's a dick and can break people/angels down. Like a dick.).

Emotional Impact: If you get into the characters, prepare for mood ups and downs. Some people really get into the drama. I've only just become interested in the show, so it probably doesn't affect me as much as a fan who has been following these characters for 7 years.

Re-watch? YES! In fact, I'm eying the DVD sets. I will have them soooooooon. 8D I believe there's enough for people to come back. Even with the painful-to-watch-because-they're-so-bad eps, it's still a wonderful series. (The duds still have that overall character humor, which kept me interested.)
I recommend that you watch the seasons' gag reels too. <3

Can't wait for S8!

MUCH better than True Blood. I would explain why I hate TB so much, but that would require watching it again, and I just can't. :P
+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+

Okay, maybe that wasn't so "brief," but one could go on and on with so much material. :P

What's next? Merlin? I have the first seasons of Battlestar Galactica, Stargate: SG-1, and Farscape, but I've had a long list long before those. >.> Hmmmm.

There's also an anime series of Supernatural. And book tie-ins maybe? ACK! This is like DW all over again!

Quicky Update 5/19/12

I've been typing up those mentioned retrospectives while scanning the old, crappy art. I'll probably put these on a schedule and they can update without my having to push the post button everyday/week/however often I want them to pop up.

I've been doodling new stuff but nothing is substantial. U MAD? :B (most likely not)

I also have found a way to watch an old favorite show of mine, so I'm thinking of doing a retrospective on that because I owe quite a bit to it. I also need to take photos for it. 8D
This may become (officially) a random ramble blog, alongside being a sketchy one. So forgive me as I yak about  nostalgic stuff (speaking of which, I've also been typing a large nostalgia entry with clips, memories, etc. But it needs to be cut into parts since it has become a bit large. 8D)

At the moment, I'm looking into Library Science degrees and I have one that seems perfect, offered by FSU. Luckily, the courses are offered online so I won't need to travel far or move. <3 Once I get a job, I can pay for the damn degree myself, if I get accepted. *crosses fingers* I may not be able to start until next year, but I figured it best to start looking early, know the requirements, professors, and other miscellany. >.>

Hope you peeps are well! <3

Upcoming Retrospectives?

The things you find while digging through boxes and drawers!

Lots of my old stuff (from early 2000s) cropped up today; some pieces were once on my old dA (Scraps), but many seem to have come from the abyss. I wonder why I kept the crap, but it's nice to look back.

I'm "ripping"(-off)) a page from Derrot's book and will post this old crap, with memories and stories surrounding it, from time to time. I'll still post new stuff in-between. <3

So- yay?

Holy crap, it's raining!

Aaaaaaaaaaand it has stopped, just this minute. ): WHY?!

+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+

So, I'm having art trouble. I can't do anything. D: The pressure to finish my goddess series must have been what was keeping my juices flowing, because now nothing is coming out right. (And those were "divinely" inspired, in a sense, so that may have helped them along anyway)

I'm trying to start on gifts which I have promised to people, along with some of my own OCS, and cartooning actors' faces for my semi-WIP DW/PMMM and other DW (the one with Mother Death) comics. (which keep getting pushed back due to slumps) And when I say "cartooning," I just mean that I'm trying to catch their main features so that you can tell it's them without my having to go into too much detail (but knowing me, they'll be detailed anyway).
I'm currently doing Benny C (and I swear to god that if you take that in a pervy way, I will choke you through the monitor). Having trouble, but I've already explained that. 8D Damn you and your stupid horse face, Benny! I can't figure it out. Still love you though (well, I at least like your work, considering "love" is such a strong word, and creepy when you think about it). Thanks for sending Tumblr into a tizzy; that was amusing.

Anyway, I am happy to see other people being productive, because I know they've been having problems too. <3 More please?

+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+

Currently on S2 of Supernatural. I'm really enjoying it. I'm more interested in the two leads' interactions than the monsters, but those are entertaining too. I have, what, six more seasons of this stuff? D: (I'm always late to these things) Hate the jump-scares. ._.; And I knew about "Wincest" long before watching the series. Honestly, I can see why Wincest is a "thing," because holy crap! Talk about possessive. It's sweet at times, but other times - yeah. XD (And it doesn't help when the two actors are so chummy, which is kind of adorbs)

+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+

Amusing stuff:
Nostalgia Critic's review of Alien Resurrection - not too keen on this installment of the franchise, so I like seeing it mocked. 8D C'mon, Prometheus! (Even though it deviates from Alien, boo)

Live Action Fanfic- This is even more hilarious if you knew about these two beforehand. But it's still awesome for a first-time viewer because it's all done in a first take(I think), so watching them trying to keep straight faces is too funny.

Aleister Reads "Stalking Is Love"- This one is pretty graphic. Nothing visually, just the descriptions. But seeing Diamanda trying to act out everyone had me in fits.

HOBBIT! PRETTY!- Yeah, it's an old trailer. So what? I can be late, can't I? :P Usually am.

Then there's DW S7 news

The First Temptation (WIP)

This could be considered both as part of my goddess series, and not. Miss Eve is blamed for fucking up the world by introducing spiritual death(separation from God), yet she's not really a "goddess." Women screw everything up. 8D

There's also the idea that the first person (Adam) was hermaphroditic, and was split into two beings (and he had three wives, but that's a story for another time). Men and women have characteristics of both sexes (estrogen and testosterone, etc.), so I gave both Adam and Eve male and female parts, kind of.

List time!

- Snakes are a phallic symbol. Is the snake tail an obvious suggestion of that? :3

-The end of that tail is in a "subtle" place on Eve. /sarcasm

-Adam does have  a female part. Can you see it? (Eve is poking it) It's based on The Healing of St. Thomas by Anish Kapoor, which I read about years ago. The opening could be seen as Christ's wound, or even as a vagina. (And since Jesus can be seen as a "new Adam," I gave this Adam the wound.)

-They both seem to be fingering that pomegranate. 8D *is shot*

-Speaking of which, who is offering the pomegranate; him or her? Can't immediately say Eve since she seems worried here.

It's not coming out the way I want it to. I might trash it and just continue working on the portrait/cartooning of Benny C and others. >.>

The Distractions

First off, I want to thank Danielle Klebes for taking photos of my goddesses for Portfolio. <3
Her Tumblr
Her Etsy shop
Her time lapse painting vids (they're awesome)

Here's some stuff:

Read

Suicide Consultant manga, by the author of FaLLEN

Uzumaki- I had very weird dreams after reading this. o.O This is a manga I wouldn't mind owning. Some parts remind me of the book, House of Leaves.

Watch

History of LGBT People in Europe(mostly)

Shadows-Lindsey Stirling

Todd in the Shadows -A-Ha's Take On Me

Pokemon-Gotta Buy 'Em All

DW RPG (like Pokemon)

Heroes Are Jerks

Stains the cupcake dog

Nash reviews DW- The Happiness Patrol: I've seen this several times, but the villain threatening to pimp slap someone is always hilarious. Nash also has a new review of Voyage of the Damned.
WTFIWWY: Hand-Carved Phallus and Festive Holiday Grenades

Obscurus Lupa Presents - Birdemic

Ninja The Mission Force

My Head & My Heart -"Johnlock"(from BBC!Sherlock) vid with the sound of Florence + the Machine's "No Light, No Light." After watching S2E3(Reichenbach Fall) and then listening to this F+tM song, I could totally see the connection between the two. Lovely vid, despite my not shipping the two male leads. (Stop trying to convert me, people! I will resist your ship! *slashes ship's sails with a sword*)

Dragonball Z Abridged- Frickin' hilarious. 8D I'm addicted. (Further eps are here)

Oancitizen/Rap Critic- Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai

Oancitizen/Cinema Snob- Tromeo and Juliet (I squealed when I saw this. Two of my fave reviewers doing this mindfuck of a movie = <3)

Listen

Ayumi Hamasaki- I am... I couldn't find a full album vid (lovely cover, I must say). >.> But I did kind of like this, so I'll check out the rest of her stuff.

Fair to Midland

Nightwish-Imaginaerum

Ayreon- The Human Equation 1 and 2

Avalanch- Malefic Time

Happy Rhodes- Equipoise

Theatre of Tragedy-Storm

Epica- Requiem For the Indifferent

Within Temptation-Silent Force

DW audio story-Dead Air - I liked this creepy tale, along with The Last Voyage. I just can't find any online file for them. 8D

BBC!Sherlock-Hound of Baskervilles commentary by Cam and Sandy (I listen to their weekly DW commentaries). This one includes a hilarious "erotic" reading of the canon story (mainly due to the words and language used in the story which can be taken the wrong way these days).

+~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+
I'm also starting to watch Supernatural. I saw the first three eps of s4 and am willing to give it a shot. Flashbacks of previous seasons look plenty creepy. And there's pie. Gotta love pie.
